RUSH was an outdoor dance spectacular performed in Blackpool on night two of the Lightpool Festival, October 26 2018. Created by Southpaw Dance Company, commissioned by LeftCoast and co-produced with Event International, RUSH featured a community cast of over 100 performers alongside Southpaw’s distinctive storytelling.

Inspired by stories of the local community, RUSH explores the challenges and hardships we as a society face, providing an outlet for everyday frustrations and culminating in a huge release of energy, creativity, and celebration of the communities of Blackpool.

Set on the site of the former police station on Bonny Street, Rush was a chance to see this Blackpool landmark in a whole new light. The police tower was transformed and dancers took over the space in an explosion of movement and music.

RUSH was originally created for The Cultural Spring in 2015, and presented by Freedom Festival Arts Trust, Coasters Network, Hull UK City of Culture 2017, and Hull Creative People and Places.

"“What an amazing event to be a part of. I will remember it for ever and all the wonderful people involved in the whole spectacle. I felt privileged to be even performing in RUSH. I’ve never danced or performed in my life, this was my first experience. I can honestly say every member of the professional group were helpful, encouraging and so friendly to me. I shall never forget Southpaw” "
