AUDITION NOTICE – BEAUTIFUL THING
A variety of dancing roles is available for an exciting new outdoor production, inspired by Jonathan Harvey’s seminal play Beautiful Thing, which tells of the love story between two young men growing up on the Thamesmead estate in South East London. The site-specific dance piece will be co-directed by GDIF Artistic Director Bradley Hemmings and Director of Southpaw Dance Company Robby Graham. It will be performed in Thamesmead as part of the 2018 Greenwich+Docklands International Festival.
Where: London, UK
When: Friday 6 April 2018
Deadline for applications: 2 April 2018
We are seeking exceptional dancers for the following roles:
Jamie* – playing age 15
Ste* – playing age 16
Leah – playing age 16 (with singing and possibly circus skills)
Sandra – playing age circa 35
Tony/Ronnie – playing age circa 35
The roles require strong performers who can work fast in both pick-up and devising of choreographic content. Dancers with experience in dance theatre devising, and high-level technical skill in contemporary, ballet, hip-hop, as well as contact and partnering, work highly encouraged. Experience performing in an outdoor context is desirable but not essential. In the absence of formal training, experience in a professional working context is accepted.
*As the roles focus on engagement with the stories of young gay men, lived experience of this identity will help inform the creation process of the production. Therefore, male dancers who identify as coming from the gay community are particularly encouraged to apply for the roles of Jamie and Ste.
Rehearsals will take place from Monday 11 June to Monday 2 July 2018.
Performances will be evenings from Tuesday 3 July to Saturday 7 July 2018.
Confirmed paid contract at ITC / Equity Rates. Rehearsals and performances will be London based.
To be considered please send both a CV (with a headshot) and YouTube / Vimeo link of yourself dancing to: firstname.lastname@example.org by 17:00, Monday 2 April 2018. Suitable applicants will then be invited to audition at a London venue on Friday 6 April 2018 between 10:00 and 17:00
